• Hi,

Kathryn Presner pointed me to this help forum for advice and help. I am a newbie so apology if I do ask some stupid questions!

I am using the Sketch as a guide on how I want my portfolio to look like. I know how to add images but when you click on the image, I want it to open in a new page within the site like how it is with Sketch. Demo: https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com

I like how the rollover works and colour changes and how the thumbnail is cropped. I tested and put a large image in to see if I can crop the large image as a thumbnail but it seems, if image sizes are different, the thumbnail reduces to show the whole image.

If anyone can please guide me, I would be ever so grateful. Ideally I would like to create the same site as Sketch. At the moment I have just put in temporary images as I want the site to be working first.

Kathryn you mentioned Sketch uses the Custom Content Types module included in the the Jetpack plugin to add a special portfolios custom post type (CPT).

I downloaded this but not quite sure what to do now. Any guidance pretty please?

Here’s where I am at the moment (not very good I know): https://sabziebee.wordpress.com

Thank you in advance for any help!

@sabziebee, is this your actual site, https://sabziebee.wordpress.com/ , or are you just testing on that site? That site is a WordPress.com site, and things work differently there and the correct forum is at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes .

Jetpack is installed automatically on all WordPress.com sites, and since the instructions are the same, I’ll go ahead and answer here. To have the images on the main page link to your portfolios, you need to do the following.

    1. Create your portfolios as explained here. Add your image(s) to that Portfolio and also set a Feature Image for each portfolio so that it will show up on the front page of your site. Publish your portfolios.

    2. Create a new page to be used as the main page on your site and set the page template to Portfolio in the Page Attributes module and publish the page.

    3. Go to Settings > Reading in the dashboard and under Front Page Displays select static page and from the pulldown select the page you just created. If you also are going publish blog posts, you will have to create a page for those and then select that from the pulldown for Posts Page.

After doing the above, your portfolios should show up on the main page of your site with the featured image linked to the individual portfolio pages.
