Any Updates to Site is Causing Mini-Outages

Big problem. Please help!
We’re having two problems which I think are also related to WP Super Cache. Since implementing the cache- the blog edreach.us has been lightning fast- that’s great! We’re also a multi author blog with 100 contributors- so I know that there is a better way to manage this.
However two things are happening.
1. Our feed us updating almost instantaneously, which doesn’t give a publisher much time to make a correction if they make a mistake. We’re about to be adding some big name publishers to this blog in a couple weeks, and I don’t know what’s happening there. We can’t find anyone who knows this plugin.2. When we hit “publish” or “save” sometimes the blog goes offline for about a minute. That’s a BIG problem for a multi-author blog. No 404 error or anything. My thought was that the pre-load is starting when we make changes and for that second it goes offline.
Please advise. Thank you very much.
