I’m running WooCommerce 3.6.4 with WooCommerce Services 1.21.0 that allows me to generate shipping labels auto-filled with customer shipping and order details, this is all integrated seamlessly and works very well (except you can’t purchase insurance on a package for some reason), but I’d like to automatically or at least manually with minimum fuss send the customer an email update showing the tracking number.

I’ve been all through the settings in WooCommerce and I cannot find anything anywhere that will just let me send a simple update email from the customer console.

Is this something that is possible to do, and if so, how do I go about doing it, or setting it up to happen automatically.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi @logicindustries,

I’d like to automatically or at least manually with minimum fuss send the customer an email update showing the tracking number.

I’d recommend using a plugin like Shipment Tracking for that. This plugin will add a field to the Edit Order page, where you can manually enter a tracking code.

After you have added the tracking number, when you mark the order as Completed, the completed order email that is sent out to the customer will include the tracking code you entered.

    Hopefully that helps!

Actually, after roping a customer into the process to forward the test emails I sent out back to me, it appears that WooCommerce Services automatically includes the tracking number in the email that is sent out when the order is marked “Complete” in WooCommerce.

It’s totally seamless. So seamless in fact, that I didn’t even know it was happening, so I was trying to find a solution to a problem I didn’t actually have.

Now if there were some way to purchase insurance on the shipping labels that WooCommerce Services produces, I’d be in hog heaven.

I also found that you can add a note to the customer via the “Order Notes” section in the lower right hand pane on the “Edit Order” page.

If you set the note to “Note to Customer” instead of “Private Note” an email will be pushed out to the customer with the note you made as well as a copy of their invoice and order details, etc.

Just FYI, in case someone later comes along and wants to know how to add a Note to the order without having to install a new plug-in.

@logicindustries Thanks for sharing your findings!

In regards to order notes, you can read more details about them in the documentation here:

This isn’t a feature available in the plugin right now, but I have shared your feedback with the development team. Thanks!
