• When I write html and css, I prepare it locally on my hard drive, make tweaks, refresh, rinse and repeat until everything is just the way I like it. Only then do I finally upload everything to the web site.

Is it possible to do this while creating my custom theme? I’m totally new to it, and I’ve been making changes to files, then FTP-ing them up to see how the look. Is it possible while creating a custom them to see it on my hard drive?

  • Most folks do this one of 2 ways.
Install WP on your home computer and work with it.
Install WP in a separate folder on their website and work with it.

Thanks samboll. I have the WP installation unzipped on my hard drive – do I now just browse to the intall file like I did on the server? Will it install without SQL?

No,no, no.You must install php and mysql – they are free downloads- Google them.
I highly recommend using Xamp. It has everything you need bundled with it and makes it much easier.
