Any way to show location?

You’re not the first person to ask, so if you think this is needed try to spec out how you think it should work.

I’ve always treated location as something that should be part of the description, leaving flexibility for embedding a map, a link to a mapping/directions service, or a picture of the location. If a group meets regularly at the same location, they can create an event template that includes that content.

On the other hand, I see the case for creating some standard chunks of content for common meeting locations that could be easily inserted into a post. There’s one community oriented website I run where that could come in handy. I just haven’t figured out the best way to do it.

Maybe my view is simplistic but I don’t see it being too complicated. A text field is more than enough to start with. The ability to save to calendar is fantastic so perhaps the location field could simply populate this field? The reasoning behind having a location field instead of adding to the description is that if you have a summary then it’s useful to be able to show the location upfront without having that part cut out. Arbitrary links can still be embedded in the description, nothing to stop that, but just makes sense to add destination too?

I added a Location button in release 5.1. You can put in the name of the location and an address, and your input will be formatted and inserted into the event post and also saved for further editing. You can either paste in a link to an online mapping service or let RSVPMaker generate a Google Maps link based on the address info you entered (should work most of the time).

The location gets saved as a special type of post, so you can edit it further to add enhancements such as a thumbnail picture of the entrance of the establishment.
