• Hi all anyone here like myself hosted with UK2.net ? Im asking because the following link explains how i can access php but i dont understand the follwing terms

    1) owned by, the nobody user
    2) Register_globals off means that you cannot rely on any CGI parameters automatically creating variables; you have to explicitly access $_GET or $_POST.
    3) CGI/PHP
Your files are stored at /home/www on the web server, if your scripts need to know this. You do not need to remember this when uploading files – our ftp server automatically adds it on.

Heres the link to the Php info on my host
    https://help.uk2.net/faq/cgi/php.html

Can anyone please explain what they are trying to say and all i want to do is configure phpmyadmin so i can edit the wordpress database, would i need to install phpmyadmin on the server ?

  • I can’t comment on the php stuff as it’s over my head, but I can comment on uk2.net.
I admin a site there (which I am moving next week away from them) and if you can move now, do so ??

    why are you moving ?

Because they offer a ‘package’ which to make useful you end up spending more and more.
Because the majority of what they offer is unwanted
Because they have no telephone support and I find their support docs lacking
Because altering the php.ini file so killing the site I work on is not my idea of fun (I had to alter a lot of stuff)
Because their prices are not competitive for what we need.
Because wiping out the stats files for over a year and then saying it was not their problem (it damn well was!) was more than annoying.

    I think that’s it ??

which host are you going with as i feel like changing, there are loads of host in the U.K and U.S, im thinking of going with a U.S host as they give you more for your money. Plus the exchange rate is another plus for U.K customers.

The guys whose site it has have a short list of around 4 I think, so the final decision is theirs – I’m not bothered which of the 4.
All are US based though for the financial reason ??

If you don’t need a huge amount of space, try https://small-packages.com/. They’re UK based, and really good. ??
