• Does anyone know of any Aperture (mac image handling software like iPhoto) friendly themes?

I am envisioning something like my arranging these in Aperture in an Album, publishing them to the theme and then, ostensibly, changing the images in the Album and having these update in the WP theme.

It would be fantastic if I could put some text in the images metadata and then have that transfer “automagically” to the WP theme.

I’ve run across “Aperture Themes” but I can’t tell if they are easily compatible with any particular WP theme.

Are there WP plugins for themes that will do this?

Thanks for any leads or any help.

  • Jon,

Have you found anything to help with the Aperture to WordPress image management or migration?

I wrote the Flickr Shortcode Importer for when I was using iPhoto to export to Flickr and then import those images directly into WordPress. I’ve since moved onto Aperture and while this process still works, I want to skip the middleman.

I’m almost to the point to write the Aperture to WordPress image management plugin myself.

What would you consider the key needs of such a plugin?

    hi michael,

thank you for posting here. i would be happy to participate in any way that is helpful for something like this. i should also probably have a bit of a think about a more thorough answer to your question but off the top of my head i would say the following. please keep in mind that i am somewhat tech savvy and understand scripting but i am not particularly code savvy.

    1. i am surprised at how relatively difficult this seems to be vis-a-vis my WP website. i am planning on setting up a portfolio website as opposed to a WP blog and i really could use something more automated for this.

    2. the workflow with Aperture to Flickr is almost seamless for me now that i have arranged my images. some quick caveats below.

    3. metadata on my web published images and pdf’s is really important so i am finalizing all of this now in my various databases. being able to /update/ added or /changed/ metadata is super important. my understanding is that the plugin i purchased about a year ago may have been updated to do this whereas it was not able to do this in the past (at least to my understanding).

    4. it is extremely helpful and necessary to be able to UPDATE and/or CHANGE existing Albums in Aperture (if i have new images to add to a project or if i decide to take out images or if i finally get my LOGOS together and put a logo overlay with copyright information on all my images…) – so – since it is so easy to update this in Aperture it would be huge to be able to do it easily for the WP album. Aperture is not quite perfect with this for Flickr but i think it is reasonably straightforward. Basically my understanding is that rather than select the whole album and republish you have to select just the added images and republish them and quite frankly now that i write this i am not sure how you DELETE images from an Album while in Aperture.

    5. if you browse the Aperture plugin pages there are some very good plugins, very nicely presented and it seems like a very rich environment to present work in. FYI i have printed this list out and studied it to see what i need to optimize my productivity.

    6. i think the Adobe equivalent to Aperture is “Lightroom” and frankly i would purchase lightroom if i could get this functionality out of lightroom and obviously i am sure a plugin could be modified to work in LR.

anyway, i see you have another post here which i will review. please let me know if i have left anything out. i will take a closer look at the link you kindly provided and i can also give you my email address if you want to follow up offline.

    again many thanks,

    jon

forgot the link to flickrexport https://connectedflow.com/flickrexport/aperture/

not sure if it is helpful or on topic or not…

    Jon,

Your response is good and helps me determine whether or not there’s a real need to create something for Aperture to WordPress.

I’m thinking that there is a need. I want to make publishing my photos easier as well. However, it’s going to be some real coding effort because I think Aperture and WordPress are going to need a plugin each to help with the sync-like capabilities.

Somehow, the two systems need to know about each other. Additionally, while my server based software development isn’t a concern, picking up Apple’s desktop is. However, I like a challenge and it’d be good for me to break into something new.

In any case, I might aim to start with a simple export to WordPress and then build up from there. I’d just want to get something that takes care of the initial hurdle and get it refactored into being easier to maintain over the long run.

Again, I’ll keep you mind on this. I’m thinking of using a new Sony A57 purchase as my incentive to get going on this project. Timeline wise, I’ll spend a couple more weeks researching before committing or not.

    Ciao!

    Michael
