The PayPal help page does not match the actual API access page. The actual page gives three options and load of jargon. I would have thought 3rd party was the right option, but it requests an unexplained Premissionms username. Is there a plain English explanation?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there,

I’m afraid I don’t fully understand the issue here – would you mind elaborating a bit more on where you’re getting stuck and how exactly this ties in with PayPal? Are you using the core PayPal method that’s packaged with WooCommerce or another PayPal extension altogether?

    Thanks!

    Thread Starter Johnot

    (@biblo47)

In Woocommerce I need to fill-in
Enter your PayPal API credentials to process refunds via PayPal.
Live API username & Live API password

The Woocommerce link: Learn how to access your PayPal API Credentials. Takes you to:
    https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/api/apiCredentials/#create-an-api-signature
The instructions on this PayPal page do NOT match the actual API page in my PayPal account, therefore I can’t discover where to obtain my Live API username & Live API password.
I assume I’m using the core PayPal Method, I assume so as it isn’t labelled as such.

Acronyms such as fsockopen/cURL, SOAP, NVP, PayPal SDK, ASP.NET and other Jargon need an explanation for people working outside of IT.
Plain English please, simple instructions please

    Hey there,

I’d like to make sure we’re all on the same page before sending you incorrect information.

Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

Can you also please send us a screenshot of the payment gateways enabled on your site? You can find that table at the bottom of WooCommerce > Settings > Checkout. I recommend https://snag.gy for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in this chat.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for explaining!

Okay, so you’re trying to set up these API credentials at the bottom of the PayPal settings for refunds:

    PayPal in WooCommerce
    Link to image: https://cld.wthms.co/MDk44K

It’s fairly normal for websites to get updated, and then screenshots in documentation to be outdated – it happens to PayPal, too. The link in the plugin links to the PayPal docs on how to do it.

Here’s the link you’d need to set it up in your own PayPal account – I checked this in my own account and it was correct:
    https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_profile-api-access

You’ll need to select the option for NVP/SOAP API integration option.

You’ll need to select the option for NVP/SOAP API integration option.
This was the vital piece of information I needed.
To non-IT people, NVP/SOAP API integration (classic) means nothing, even after I looked up what the acronyms stood for.
