Hi I have updated the plugin to the latest version and managed to get one post out that was added to my site this morning. There are two sections to this:

    – Whilst the post this morning did publish on Apple News it did not take the key/featured image with it, nor did it take any of the in-line images.

    – Also I cannot publish any pre-existing content in the list – when I click publish it gives me the following error message:

There has been an error with the API. Please make sure your API settings are correct and try again: The attachment Article-Header-Images_Coaching4Careers_Managing-Emotions_02.jpg could not be included in the request because it was empty.

The attachment mentioned in the error is the featured image in the post and did previously work when manually submitting the RSS feed to Apple News Publisher.

    Any help welcome!

Images work fine for most people, but there are some who are having problems. We are trying to narrow down the root cause of this issue. Can you please provide the JSON file for the post that encountered this error and a link to the post on your site?

    Thanks.

Also can you please ensure that your host doesn’t block usage of the function file_get_contents for remote files? Specifically they may need to enable allow_url_fopen in your PHP config.

    Thanks.

Hi Bradford – JSON file is available to download at https://www.pgae.com/wp-content/uploads/article-14944.json_.zip for you. Our web developers are checking on the PHP config so don’t know about that just yet but perhaps this can help?

    Thank you

Our developer just confirmed that both PHP functions are enabled.

    Thanks

I’m a little confused on your problem here. You mentioned an issue with the image “Article-Header-Images_Coaching4Careers_Managing-Emotions_02.jpg” in your original post, but I don’t see that image referenced anywhere in the sample article you just provided.

Hi yes sorry you are correct – that file was given to me by our developer so it is for the latest post on our site. However we still got a similar error shown below for that post when I published it earlier and also when trying to manually publish it from within the Apple News plugin list of posts. The attachment stated in the below error is one of the images within the body of the post.

There has been an error with the API. Please make sure your API settings are correct and try again: The attachment flatstickacademy.jpg could not be included in the request because it was empty.

Unfortunately at this time I can’t say why that error is occurring for you. I’d check your PHP error logs to see if there are any additional details that might help troubleshooting.

I’ve logged an issue in github to add an enhanced debugging mode that might help troubleshoot this type of situation in the future: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/issues/124

Hi Bradford – our developer took a more in-depth look and managed to get it working (some of the time at least):

it appears there is a conflict with iThemes security when “Enable HackRepair.com’s blacklist feature” is enabled. This bans certain IPs and domains that are know to be dodgy.

We are now able to publish some posts but not all – with some posts that won’t go we get the same error as before about the attachment, with one we got ‘INVALID_DOCUMENT’ and with one we even got one saying the attachment was the ‘article.json’ attachment was empty.

Hopefully as the plugin gets updated these things will iron out but hope the above info is of use.

For those with INVALID_DOCUMENT errors, please download the JSON file and make use of the News Preview tool to debug the exact error. If you can provide those to us, it will be a lot more helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    I have the same issue.
Here are some info that might help you troubleshoot :

    – Before I updated from 1.04 to 1.07 i didn’t have any issue pushing the articles.
    – My hosts guarantees me that file_get_contents and allow_url_fopen are open/not blocked.
    – Publishing articles that are text only works fine

    For this article :
    https://www.messynessychic.com/2016/04/07/you-can-now-rent-julia-childs-provencale-kitchen-as-she-left-it-on-airbnb/

Here is the error message I get :

There has been an error with the API. Please make sure your API settings are correct and try again: The attachment il_fullxfull.492071630_5ygd.jpg could not be included in the request because its size was 0.

You can download the JSON file here :
    https://www.messynessychic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/article-77294.json_.zip

What changed when going from version 1.04 to 1.07 that could have triggered the issue?

    Hi Aston,

we are facing exactly the same issue. and for last 3 days we are unable to publish anything on apple news and it says :

There has been an error with the API. Please make sure your API settings are correct and try again: The attachment Screen-Shot-2016-04-22-at-10.29.24.png could not be included in the request because its size was 0.

    Can someone help Please??

As I replied in the other thread on this topic, we may be looking into improving image handling in the future, but at the moment there have been a small number of reports like yours where there seems to be an issue with your web host’s handling of images. We don’t have a firm answer at this time, but we will look into this at some point on our roadmap.

    Hi there,

I’m having the same issue. I use BlueHost. The majority of my previous articles uploaded but none of my recent ones are uploading. I’m getting this error when I try to publish to Apple News:

THERE HAS BEEN AN ERROR WITH THE API. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR API SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN: THE ATTACHMENT PEXELS-PHOTO-54377.JPEG COULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE REQUEST BECAUSE ITS SIZE WAS 0.

    Hi there,

For anyone having trouble if you reset your API settings on Apple News and re-enter them in the pluggin it seems to fix the image error.

Update: Nevermind it doesn’t fix the problem.

    (@potatomaster)

This is a known issue for some folks that we’re looking into soon.
