• The blog that I am building is self hosted and I need an API key to run WP Stats. Is it ok to use the API key for my wordpress.com account even though the blog is not hosted on wordpress.com? The reason I ask is that worpress.com wants to register the self hosted blog and I didn’t know if this might cause technical issues as the blog is not hosted on wordpress.com. I tried asking on their forum but they sent me here.

  • yes.

WordPress.com has what’s called “API keys” which allow you to use services and enhancements built on the WordPress.com platform. This allows you to leverage the power of WP.com while still hosting your blog elsewhere.

Yes, I was aware of that and already tried it out but I became concerned when my self hosted blog became registered to my wordpress.com account. Is this ok?

I have exactly the same question. I can only find the API for my wordpress.com blog.

I have a www.ads-software.com blog, and need to connect it to youtube. I created a wordpress.com blog to get an API key, but Youtube doesn’t see the connection. Does the username and/or password have to be the same for the two blogs? How about the email address? Thanks.

I too am confused about this. I’ve set up my blog (self-hosted) and now want an account for the API key. How do I proceed in a way that points the account to my (existing) WordPress blog . . . for which I already have a username and password related to dashboard access? Thanks!

Same question here. But it seens nobody is answering. Do any of you got success with the API key for a self hosted blog? I have the same blog with the samename in a wordpress.com account – can I just copy the API and use it in my self-hosted blog?

I would really be very grateful if any of you could share how did you got over that question.

    Thanks

I have tried to use the API key of my wordpress account, on my new self-hosted blog, and it worked fine….
actually what I am confused about it that my old blog is still getting more traffic, and is appearing a lot in search engines, while the new one is not appearing except if I explicitly search for its name!
Does that have any relation with them having the same API key?
