API key to install Spam Protection

If you want to use the Akismet plugin, you have to create a blog at wordpress.com (even if you don’t want to use it). This is where you’ll get the key that you can use for your own WordPress site.

By the way… I’m new, but have heard that spam is becoming a big issue. Has it been a problem for you? If so, have you found a solution? and do you think installing Akismet is something that most people are satisfied with, or have you found something you thinks works better?
