    Hello,

    For JavaScript there is no alternative and this is the way it is done, please see the Google tutorial here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/tutorial

    Google only recently made the maps API key a requirement so some of their instructions might be a bit out of date.

    You can limit your api key to only work from certain domains which means it does not matter if someone knows it or not.
