FYI, WordPress.com released an updated Apostrophe 2 version that they’ve kept up to date. Apostrophe 2 has been updated twice in the last year (to 2.07 and now currently 2.08)

Apostrophe 2 isn’t in the www.ads-software.com directory, but they’ve made it available to download for free @ https://wordpress.com/theme/apostrophe-2 .

Installation takes just a minute or two.

For those who love this theme but want the latest features/code.

  • Hi there,

    This is correct, yes.

However, I’d like to note that even Apostrophe 2 is still an older theme, with limited support for the block editor, and it doesn’t support the new site editor at all.

Also, to get the most out of Apostrophe 2, we recommend you also install the Jetpack plugin, as several of the theme’s features are powered by that plugin ??

Thanks for your reply. Just now seeing it.

Do you know if Apostrophe 2 will be updated to support these new features or just kept current as is?

As I understand, relatively few themes currently support the FSE. I haven’t seen any that look remotely suitable for a magazine-style blog.

    Hi there,

There are not any plans that I know of to update this theme to FSE. That said, it is possible to create a magazine-style homepage using any of the current FSE themes. There was actually a really nice demo on this recently, which can be found on wordpress.tv here: https://wordpress.tv/2022/04/19/creating-a-magazine-layout-with-the-block-editor/

That presentation uses the TwentyTwentyTwo theme and FSE tools to create the layout, and the techniques shown here would work with any FSE theme I can think of. Hope this helps!

Thanks, that helps a lot. Yeah, I wasn’t really interested in designing my own theme, per se, but I may learn in the absence of an alternative.
