Appearance Widget screen not responsive

  • Hello,

    I am having issues with this plugin i believe. My Widget page in the appearance section has been un-responsive lately. Meaning that when i go to the widget page and try to expand the customized widgets on the right hand side and try to expand via the drop down arrow- nothing happens. I made a post in the general “Fix wordpress” forum and someone was nice enough to notify me to de-activate all of my plugins and slowly turn them on one by one. So i did. It would appear that the “Feature Page” widget is causing the issue.

    I am using the Sailent theme for my site if that makes a difference. I have a large number of featured pages, which may be the issue but im not certain.
    Do you have any suggestion on how to solve this issue? I believe it is just bogging down in the browser memory, but again its just guess. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello mrwweb,

    sorry for delay in responding to you. I tried inserting the pieces of code into the child theme file as you had instructed. It did not change visually (on widget page) and the widgets page was still frozen (also unable to use any of the drop down menus on the widgets page – frozen). I was unable to uninstall and re-install the latest version which you also sent over. I am/ was hesitant about removing an active plug in and replacing it with a new version level. So sadly i was not able to full test out the plugin as you’ve requested.

    Hi @mikepve, thanks for the response.

    That code won’t do anything without the beta version of the plugin, so I’m not surprised to hear it wouldn’t work. I guess I’ll go ahead and release the update and see what happens. I hope it can fix your issue.

    The update is otherwise quite minimal, so it’s very safe to upgrade to. My only hesitation came from whether or not it would fix your problem.

    I just pushed version 2.1.0 that is primarily hoping to resolve your issues. There are two things to know:

    1. The line of code you previously added will not impact the widget form. (add_filter( 'fpw_temp_memory_fix', '__return_true' );). That code changes the “Page to Feature” drop down into a text field with the featured page ID.
    2. You should try removing that code to see if the other improvements are enough to bring your site back. I made some changes intended to speed up the widget admin and saw some very promising results in testing. I can’t guarantee this will fix your problem, but I’m quite optimistic it will.

    Please let me know if the new version helps.

    @mikepve just checking back in to hopefully hear if the new changes helped get your Appearance > Widgets screen working again. Details were in the previous post.

    @mrwweb we’re unfortunately experiencing the same issue as well. Larger site with many posts.

    Hi @kaotik, please create a new forum thread for your specific issue. When you do so, include details about whether you have:

    • Whether you are using up-to-date versions WordPress and Feature a Page Widget.
    • Tried using a default WordPress theme (starting with “Twenty”)
    • Disabled all other plugins
    • Tried using the fpw_temp_memory_fix solution described in this message.
    • The number of Posts, Pages, and other post types you expect to see available for selection in Feature a Page Widget.
