Approved comments never appear

I would check with your theme. Jetpack Comments replaces the comment_form() that is used to collect comments, but the display of approved comments is still fully handled in the typical WordPress way via your theme.

So you’re saying that the comment_form() function just displays the form. What function typically displays the actual comments?
