    Hi,

I have found a problem that I can’t for the life of me work out why it’s happening. We use your plugin on our site and everything is fine apart from the archive pages that the category point to and the order of the posts on that page.

We have three separate category post widgets in a sidebar. thats all fine. THey all have the same settings. Identical. BUt on the last category posts widget, the order of the archive posts showing on the category post of that category is in the opposite order to the other two category post pages.

I have run a test and the last category posts has got its “reverse sort order” ticked. But when I tested it on the page by unticking it it had no effect, which means it’s got nothing to do with why the archive page is in reverse order.

And I have been through all three widgets and checked and rechecked options to see if this made any changes and nothing. The theme is basic so there is nowhere else to change these options so it must be within your plugin, I just can’t find where!.

    Please help!

    Thanks

    Hello,

we haven’t this issue at any installation we can test or reach.

So it is possible you write us here you website url: https://tiptoppress.com/contact/
And we would ask also for a account, login-name and password, to have access to your website?

A tipp can be: Try place our widget with a new instance, do your setting options and check if still the same wrong behaviour occured.

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reply, sorry for the delayed response, didn’t get an email!

I have created an account for you. And sent you the details via your contact page.

Everything that matters is about the homepage and the widgets on the right.

I have done as requested, and it makes no change to the archive page.
I did just that anyway and used a new one, I even have the widget with the original setting on that is still there in the inactive widgets section and tried using that again but is still does nothing to the archive page.

It’s strange, if you select on the homepage the link in the top two widget sections, so that would be “Recent News & announcements” and then again for the “Whats On” those archive pages are just fine. But the moment you select “services” on the third widget down. the archive page is different and in reverse order. And no changes I can find will change it.

    Thanks

    Daniel,

Also can we be a bit careful, the ladies who run this website like their ship in order so any changes made can we refrain from leaving them like they were as you found them if you find no problems.

    Thanks

I don’t want to rearange anything!

I see you want to set the order by for the archive page. Anyway the archive page is linked and clickt with a link within our widget – you can’t set the sort order for a archive page.

You can use a new site and add our widgt with shortcode to the content area of the site, select the category “Services” and change the sort order.
In the sidebar check the option in the Title panel “Hide title” and use a Custom HTML widget to link to the new site. (We support to set your own custom link for the title in our pro version (https://tiptoppress.com/term-and-category-based-posts-widget/documentation-4-7/#Title), because there are more than one categories possible)

    Daniel,

I don’t understand why the archive page order is different for the

    “Recent News & announcements”

    and again for the

    “Whats On”

    but when it gets to the;

    “Service”

widget it is reverse order on the archive page, in my eyes this is a bug? theoretically they should all be in the same order if they all come from the same widget?

I can’t start a new site its too much work for a basic church website in which there is a simple solution to a tiny widget problem that we just haven’t found yet and also of which im a volunteer to help look after it. And I shouldn’t need to change the link either. it’s a tiny problem, to start a new website because of it would be silly?

Can you not find out why this is happening, this problem were two are the same but one is different? IT must be within the plugin?

    Thanks

It may be that we have a misunderstanding.

For me, all archive pages have the same ‘order by’ rule.
Two widgets in your sidebar have the same ‘order by’ rule.
And the last widget in your sidebar has a revers ‘order by’ rule.

From the widget title link, in the sidebar, you can only link to the archive pages.
You can’t set the ‘order by’ rule or the ‘order by’ rule is set by the link from the widget titel.

If you want to have one different “order by” for the “Service” archive page you can follow my proposed steps above.

    Hi Daniel,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

That’s the point, the archive page are all meant to have the same ‘order by’ rule but they don’t.

Although the last widget has a different ‘order by’ rule if you unselect it, it still has a different order by rule. making no change to the ‘order by’ rule on the archive page which doesn’t make sense because the ‘order by’ rule should be the same on all three pages.

I don’t want a different ‘order by’ rule, I want the same for all three pages.

    Thanks

The order by use the publish date of the post.
Not what you write in the your post title.

You can change this publish date: https://seorave.com/can-edit-blog-posts-publish-date-time/
Or set the same publish date as you write in the post titel.

Tipp: Be aware of the year, that is is not 2017 and 2018
