Archive page with subcategories & posts in Alpha.

(first time poster be gentle ?? )

In one of my main categories I have both posts AND subcategories.

I would like to show a list combining BOTH of these into an alphabetical list of links (Actual I want do do more than that with images for each and columns but I think I can handle that if I can get the fundamentals first).

I don’t want and posts from the subcategories to show in this list (they’ll get to them when they click on a subcategory).

For further info. I have a child theme set up. I have a category-blah.php page ready to code. In fact I can get as far as showing subcategories and further down the page showing posts but I can’t seem to make a list combining both.

Sorry if this is as clear as mud, it’s been doing my head in for two days!
