Archives Links Not Working

  • I’m having a problem with my archives links, if one of the monthly archives links is clicked it just goes back to the index page of the blog. But any other link, like cats. or tags when clicked are taken to the correct page with the posts in that cat or tag being display as the should.

    My site’s url is https://www.erikakers.com and I wrote the theme from the ground up, so did I just miss a template page I need for the archives to work or is it something else? It doesn’t seem to be a permalink issue since they were working correctly everywhere else.

  • Sometimes people mix the archive.php and the archives.php and then get the wrong results.

    Well I had archive.php and I added archives.php just to double check and there is still the same problem.

    Can you expand on that at all?

    archive.php is one of the standard template files that are recognized by WP engine, while archives.php (mainly done and named so following the default theme) is an optional Page template.

    archive.php – is for displaying the… archives (monthly, category); and it must have the standard WP Loop;
    archives.php – can be anything you want as long as it is used just as a Page template

    I have seen cases when users tried to display their monthly archives on archives.php. Complete failure, of course.

    Okay, the file I’m using is called archive.php and it’s the same file as single.php, but the_content has been changed to the_excerpt. But till if you click on the monthly archive links it just goes back to the index page.

    Anything else it could be?

    Any plugin that might be messing with it? Did you try deactivating all the plugins and see if it works?
    Any redirects in the htaccess file or elsewhere?
    Any physical folders in your website with identical names, i.e. what would be the URL for your monthly archives?
