Are pretty permalinks mandatory for search bot indexing process

  • I am trying to enable pretty permalinks on my new blog. Unfortunately there seems to be some issues. I am wondering if I could leave the permalink structure as default and yet be effectively indexed by google/yahoo and other search engines.

    Is there any benefit of using a pretty permalink?

  • If you ask an SEO guru, he/she will say yes, pretty permalinks are important here.

    If you ask me… no, I’ve seen no problems with default permalinks and being appropriately indexed by the various search engines. There are some good reasons for having them, but they’re far more to do with human-readability at this point.
