Hi, In the latest version of SWPM, PayPal paid now buttons require the use of PayPal API. Will my previous PayPal buttons still work? If not, will payments be rejected by PP? I suppose if I need to create new ones, then I have to set up the API keys, right?

    Hi,

In the latest version of SWPM, PayPal paid now buttons require the use of PayPal API.

The PayPal API is for the new buttons. The following documentation has more information to help you setup the new PayPal API credentials.

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/getting-paypal-api-credentials/

Will my previous PayPal buttons still work?

Yes, you can still use the other PayPal buttons as per the following PayPal buy now button documentation.

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-buy-now-button-inside-the-simple-membership-plugin/

And for PayPal subscription buttons, the following documentation can help you.

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-subscription-button-inside-the-simple-membership-plugin/

    Kind regards.

After updating to latest version, the Create New Button is no longer available. There is no way I can use the old way to create new Buy Now button.

If I use the new way API method to create a new button, will both the old and the new buttons coexist and continue to work?

Which ones are you referring to as old buttons? You can still create the following old buttons:

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-buy-now-button-inside-the-simple-membership-plugin/

If you are referring to the Smart PayPal buttons as old, those are not really old buttons. Those are what PayPal has deprecated and then introduced this new API. You will see a lot of similarities between the smart checkout and the new ones. So you use the following to create those type of buttons:

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-buy-now-buttons-paypal-api/

All the existing buttons will continue to work. However, if you want to create a new button for membership, then you should use the new ones (since PayPal wants users to use these new ones in the future).

I am referring to this. In the updated version there is no such thing, just the API setup. I may have missed something. Please advise.

<<All the existing buttons will continue to work. However, if you want to create a new button for membership, then you should use the new ones (since PayPal wants users to use these new ones in the future).>>

If the former buttons I created will still work that is what I need to know. If I have to use API setup for future payment buttons, then I will do that. It just that the former setup is so much simpler.

Go to the payments menu then the “Create New Button” tab. Do you see the new button option as explained on the following document?

Oh you are talking about the old Hosted buttons. Those were deprecated a long time ago. Those are not supported anymore. Any existing buttons will continue to work but to create new PayPal Buy Now buttons, you have choose between one of the following options:

    or

Hi @wpinsider-1 , Thanks for the clarification. The last time I need to create Paypal button was a year ago. I used the Hosted button process then. My production system is on 4.2.4. In that version, this Hosted button is still available in Setting->Payment Setting tab. That’s why I am a little confused. I suppose I can still use it.

Any buttons you already created will continue to work (in the old version and in the new version). What we are doing in the new version is removing the option to create the old buttons. We don’t want users to keep creating these old buttons as they are being phased out. This is a process to phase out the old option slowly (since PayPal wants the users to use the new API).

So any buttons you already created in the past and you have put it on your join us page, those will continue to work (the transactions will be processed). You just won’t see the option to create new ones. When you need new payment buttons, use the new button option and put them on your Join us page.

Okay, I will use the new API button in the future if I need to create new buttons. Also my membership fees will change in the future. Can I just modify the amount in the Hosted (old) button without the need to create new one with API?

I use another plugin with payment feature. This one also use PayPal API, and is linked to my organization’s treasurer PayPal account. Will all these work with SWPM Paypal API? Sorry for all these questions.

Yes, you can change the price of the button. However, if it is a subscription payment button then it is not a good idea to change the price. Instead, create a new payment button at the new price range and put it on the landing page.

You can create/get a new set of API keys that you will use with this plugin. So, you can keep it separate from your other plugins API. When you create a new set of PayPal API keys, you log into the PayPal account that these keys will be for. So, you can keep it separate from your other PayPal account. You just have to try it by following the documentation we have. You can create a new button and try a test from a test page that you create. If you don’t like it, then delete it later. At least, this will allow you to see how the process works. You will most likely find that the process is kind of easy and smooth.

We just have one PayPal account. But now we will have two APIs from two plugins connected to it. I just wonder how this will turn out. But in any case, I’ll test it out in sandbox mode first to find out.

Thanks again for your patient explanation. Much appreciated.

You can have as many apps as you want that are connected to your same PayPal account. It’s designed to work that way so there is no issue with that.

    Got it. Thanks @wpinsider-1
