• While testing a form for a client, it worked fine for me, but they kept getting a “Failed to send your message” orange error.

When I changed my message to be the same as their tests, I also got the failure message. I changed the message again and then it worked fine. So this leads me to believe there are trigger words that stop the email from sending.

Message: This is a test to see if web to lead is working….

I haven’t found any documentation as to why that caused the form to fail. Are there trigger words?

Of note, we’re also using Akismet, Forms: 3rd-Party Integration and Wordfence Security with the site so maybe they’re involved somehow.

  • I have the same issue. I also deactivated Akismet, but without succes. There must be something wrong with Contact Form 7 plugin.

I don’t know if something is wrong, but it does seem like there is some built in spam protection that can be triggered by saying Test or something in the request. Knowing that would be great.

I doubt it’s any shortcomings from my setup when 99% of all messages come through. Overall it works, it was just odd that one specific message caused it to fail.

That comment blacklist sounds like the culprit though. Didn’t realize the client had that setup.
