Hi Pippin, I’m currently using s2member and I’m fed up with it. Countless bugs, features only half developed and no VATMOSS support for Paypal.
I paid already a mid 4 digit figure to have a Paypal Vatmoss Plugin written by a local developer – but it is still troubling me as it only works on about 95% of subscriptions correctly… I’ld love to switch to a better supported and maintained membership plugin.
    So here are my requirements.

I have a page (openmtbmap.org) where people pay a yearly subscription (or multiyear single time payment) via Stripe or Paypal. (and sofort.com would be nice but I cannot implement it yet). Users get access to unlimited file downloads while their account is active.

    1. Downloads are up to 10GB and I update them weekly via SFTP. Can EDD protect the downloads and offer resume support? (server is guaranteed 1gbit/s so it’s fast enough – but some users have slow connections hence they need resume support cause maybe they download for up to 12 hours with several internet breakups). Total download volume is around 50-60TB/month.

    2. Offer some kind of flood control to check if an account has been compromised/shared (e.g. IP login limit per account/simultaneous login limits, limit each account to say 100 downloads a month or similar)

    3. Handle existing paypal subscriptions (send invoices using taxamo plugin) – so I would need to mass import several thousand existing paypal subscriptions and their relevant vatmoss data (IP address, country, and so on).

    4. work with Nginx (apache is installed but webserver runs on nginx via port 430 (ssl pagewide implemented))

    5. qtranslate-x support / multilingual support for emails and notices / registration forms and so on. (so pass through anything to standard multilinugal/translatable wordpress filters)

    6. Checkout forms need to be top notch. So only ask the customer the info I absolutely need for Vatmoss, no more. So no full address, but prepopulate the country field based on IP address (e.g. via maxmind lite database installed locally on server) – only ask for full address if user selects another country. And absolutely bombproof interface – I don’t want to have any more than say 1 out of 200 or 300 users email me because they did not manage to login, or get password, or so on, emails stuck in junk filters, or whatever. I do my part (SPF verification and so on) but the plugin needs to send emails nicely formatted and with good format so they make it through).

    Nice to have:
    7. allow any registered user to get support via comments – but show if their account is still active (paid for) or not. Alternatively only allow active users to write comments.

    8. Download statistics per user / per file.

Is the above doable with EDD. I do expect to pay a couple grand for the user import to a 3rd party dev – but I need to have proper documentation for the import structure needs.

    Hi there!

    1. We do support large files but at this time we do not support resuming file downloads, sorry.

    2. We have a download limit feature that lets you set the maximum number of times a file can be downloaded for a purchase. This should take care of the issue for you.

    3. I’m sorry but we do not handle the migration of existing PayPal subscriptions.

    4. Yep, we fully support nginx.

    5. I have not personally tested EDD with qTranslate recently but the last time I tested it, a year or so ago, everything appeared to work fine.

    6. When you are collecting sales tax, the billing address is required by EDD in order to properly calculate tax.

    7. We do not have support for that, sorry.

    8. We keep full download logs ??

Oh – sorry for not saying thanks for your answer earlier. I read your answer – but then did not find time to write back and forgot about it.

    1. Oh – why can no-one get that right for protected downloads (except via Amazon S3 route which is impossible for few large downloads with their tariff options.)
2 – No, that would not help – at least not in the way you describe it. Users pay for a yearly membership – and it’s not number of times a single file can be downloaded, but overall number of downloads of all files over Period X that would help me.

    3. Well that rules it out. I think the other points would be give or take and make me run some trials – but without an idea how to move subscriptions over – I’m locked in not able to change. Too bad.
