I’m using the Premium version of ARMember (Version 4.5) with the default PayPal payment portal, and I am having trouble with account creation.

If someone signs up to our website (which has a monthly recurring fee of $14), then the account is created, and the plan is assigned correctly.

However, if that individual uses a coupon code (MONEYCOG21) we’ve just created, which gives a $14 discount to allow for the first month to be free, then even after a recurring payment scheme is sucessfully set up, no account is created. But the individual will still be charged unless they cancel their subscription from their PayPal account.

We then tried disabling the coupon addon and adding a free trial of 30 days in the monthly plan settings. However, the same problem exists. A recurring payment scheme is set up in PayPal, but no account is created on the website.

Looking at the PayPal debug logs, everything looks correct, with the last entry showing that the webhook submitted data for entry. But obviously, the data doesn’t get submitted since no account is created.

It seems that unless a transaction takes place where money is actually paid, an account will not be created.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Edit: This only appears to be happening to paid plans. I created a plan that is free for users to sign up to (meaning there is no PayPal payment portal) and account creation is working correctly.

Looking into the subscriptions with the PayPal dashboard, it states that the first month is a trial period, after which the subscription ($14 per month) period will begin. Could this be interfering with the account creation process on the website? If so, what potential solutions could be used?

They did indeed. This was, in fact, a tiny bug hiding in the ARMember code. They promptly sent me a patch which has seemingly fixed the problem.

I expect this fix will be included in the next update for ARMember, so hopefully, no one else will run into this problem.

Very impressed and very happy with the support team!
