• I moved my WordPress over to self-hosted, intending to post more… then there was Gutenberg. Now I don’t want to post at all. Does anyone know how to remove Gutenberg?

  • It’s a plugin now, just go to plugins and disable it. I leave it installed to check it after updates to see if it’s any better…. news flash. it’s not. It actually prevents the New Page… page from loading. So if I want to add any content, I have to disable Gutenberg

gutenberg is part of the core since wp 5.0, it is not a plugin anymore.
you need a plugin to disable it instead. “classic editor” is the most used, but then the gutenberg styles are still loaded into the front-end withouth serving any purpose.
i’d recommend the “disable gutenberg” plugin which completely removes gutenberg.

@mariecooperactor – the easiest way to remove the Gutenberg editor is to use the Classic Editor plugin.

Thank you @asoldier @getupworks @buzztone I was getting frustrated because I’d added the Disable Gutenberg plugin but there wasn’t any change. I found a setting in the Classic Editor that was set so that Gutenberg was the default editor. I changed that and deleted Gutenberg plugin and the ‘Disable Gutenberg’ plugin and all seems well. Although, I’ve totally forgotten what I was going to write now ?? I need a memory plugin ??

glad to hear everything works now.
as “classic editor” loads the gutenberg front end styles – which is pointless if gutenberg is turned off: you have to configure “disable gutenberg” under settings.

@getupworks – I’m not seeing the problem you describe with the Classic Editor plugin activated, so I’m not clear what issue you are describing.

I should mention that the Classic Editor is being updated frequently and now includes a range of options which lets you choose in detail when you want to use either the Classic Editor or Block Editor.

from the release notes of “disable gutenberg” 1.5.2:

    • Adds option to disable frontend Gutenberg styles

i can confirm: with “classic editor” activated,
    /wp-includes/css/dist/block-library/style.min.css
is loaded to the front end / theme. this does not happen with “disable gutenberg”.
