    Hi Davis,

Thank you again for the great plugin, I am building Linux Articles and as you probably know, Linux articles can be generic talking about Linux in general, distribution specific talking about Debian or CentOS, or distribution version specific such Debian8 or CentOS7.

All together, I have 3 categories. Now, my needs that some generic articles should be part of the next 2 categories. Meaning, I need a way to include some articles in multiple courses. Is it possible?

(By the way, when I say categories, I am not referring to WordPress categories, although it can be good example since in WordPress categories, I can assign an article to multiple categories. I am saying categories just to show you the picture)

What I suggest, is an option in the plugin’s settings to have the courses act like categories structure, meaning, an article/post can be part of multiple courses if required using check mark. I can imagine that the courses will be listed in this case as a list with Check Boxes instead of drop down menu.

For now, can you provide me with quick fix? I am willing to hack the code if you give me some guidance.

Thank you again for your great work! ??

    Hi Imad,

You are correct that this cannot be done without hacking at the moment. The select element for the course selector is actually built based on the Tags chooser (text field). It wouldn’t take to much to convert that to be based on the Categories chooser and then add an option to toggle that functionality. I’ll leave myself a note to update that. I don’t have a timeline for its release, though.

For now, your best bet would be to hire someone to modify it for you. It’s simply not an option that is provided and not something I’ll be able to implement today or even this week. Sorry.

Sean! thank you so much for your response ?? Frankly, I tried the Organize series and I had to pay the developer $20 for the Multiple Courses addon, I mean adding the post to multiple courses. Bro, I hope you had that addon, I would have paid you even $50 for it.

Anyway, I am running both plugins parallel right now to be in the safe side, I still not sure how series will work for me. I wouldn’t mind to have both plugins run parallel though, however, I would love to have Simple Course Plugins used at the post to List Course Table instead of series, and I will wait till you release an update or addon so I can add a post for multiple courses.

Please consider addons, I assure you that people will buy, I am your first customer bro ??

Thank you again for that great plugin.

Dear Sean, man I can’t believe I haven’t thought of this yesterday. Please allow me to contribute to your plugin development. I am willing to pay you in order to take this plugin to the next level.

Sean, you are the best guy to hire :), I am willing to pay you! Just through me a number… I am willing to pay you when ever I need new feature in this plugin, and if you want to release those features later on as part of the plugin free under www.ads-software.com and not just addon, it’s your choice. Or if you want to sell them as addons and make money of them, I will be so happy for you ??

I look forward for your response.

    Hi Imad,

Thank you for your offer. However, I will have to ask you not to use the Easy Digital Downloads support form to contact me. That is a separate product from a separate company and it affects more people that just me when you submit a ticket there. Please refrain from using that form unless you need assistance with Easy Digital Downloads or its extensions. Thanks.

What this really comes down to time. I have a lot of work on my plate. While I do like this feature, the problem is how fast you need it. You submitted your ticket a day ago and I just don’t have the time to drop everything at the moment and do it. I want to do it… I just can’t do it today or even this week, as mentioned previously.

I’ll leave this ticket open, of course, and I’m putting it on my list of things to do. But it will take a little time.

Hi Sean, first my apology for using Easy Digital Download email. Second, thank you so much Sean for considering this feature. I agree, please take your time. I totally understand. I still haven’t published my new website yet, hopefully in 2 months from now.

However, I still wanted to pay you something bro. You haven’t through me a number yet ?? or if you don’t have number in mind, share with me a donation link.

By the way, organize series plugin and the Multiple addon gave me an option like the category does (check Boxes), however, there was a bug when I view a post that is part of a multiple series, the List or the Table view, showed all the courses that this post belongs to, rather, it should show only the course that in question.

I believe you will find this bug interesting. I contacted the developer, however, I found out that he is not interested anymore developing or fixing his plugins.

Look what happens when I click on a post that is part of multiple series:

As you mentioned, the structure is there, which is the category instead of tags, however, the challenge I believe, is on the table view, which you call it in your plugin I believe the Ajax Table view.

If you have course A,B, and C, and post-1 is part of course A,B, and C. Let’s say you are interested in course A, when you clicked on post-1 which is part of courses B and C as well, how would you hide course B and C from appearing at the table view while reading post-1? ?? That’s what series plugin and its multiple addon couldn’t handle or it’s a bug.

Thank you Sean for all the hard work and time, I look forward for your response. My email is emaddaou at gmail dot com.

I just found the donation link! Sorry, I totally forgot about the www.ads-software.com donation link ?? Thank you Sean.

    Hi Imad,

I just got your donation. You didn’t have to do that! I really appreciate it, though. I do intend to see what can be done about this.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a bug. You were able to explain the dilemma yourself… it’s the nature of having posts be part of multiple courses. So it’s not even unexpected or broken… it’s just an unfortunate reality. A solution would me more of a feature enhancement, not a bug fix.

The first thing that crosses my would be to show all courses that the post is part of separately. Keeping with the example you give, it would literally need to show course A, B, and C on post-1. Perhaps it could be done in a tabbed interface where when you click one tab, named after a course, it shows what you’d example from that course including your post-1. Then you could also click on the other tabs to see the same information.

What do you think about that? It’s not something I would ever want to create right out of the box but I do agree that the overall enhancement is valuable and I think the only way to do it right is to present all courses that a post is part of.

    Thoughts?

Hi Sean, you are welcome bro ?? In fact, I feel so happy when I give something back to wordpress community, especially the plugin developers.

I agree with you, adding post-1 to multiple courses from the backend would be easy to implement using category function, however, the challenge resides at the table view at the front end. I can tell, it won’t be easy solution. I just wanted to share with you my thoughts and how currently the Simple Course Creator Table view looks like at my development web site. I forget to mention, that my website is based on Genesis 2, and is not live yet, hopefully in 2 months from now I can publish the new website, is called ccnahub.com

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bo6f7dh6t4tiret/courses-table-view.png?dl=0

By the way, I call this type of posts (post-1) in my courses a “general type post”, which technically used by most courses. The following image shows you the structure of my Linux Courses:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/y4t6jmjos1831pn/courses-table-view2.png?dl=0

As you can see, it’s so beautiful! ?? I love it, especially that it shows on both location at the top and the bottom of the post. Besides the tab idea, 1) I would love actually to have the same look of the table view, 2) to have an admin option from the backend between showing all courses using the tab idea when viewing a post that is part of Multiple courses, or hide the rest of the courses when a user reading this post.

Again, thank you Sean for all your hard work, I look forward for this solution at your earliest convenience, no rush at all. As you said, it will be a great enhancement.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hi Imad,

Thanks for the feedback! And I agree, giving back to the WordPress development community does feel good. I still do it quite often myself.

I’m going to give it more thought and try to play with some ideas in the next couple of weeks to see what I can come up with. I’ll ping you on this ticket when I have some progress.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Sean,

How are you? I want to thank you again for your plugin. I have changed the design layout of my courses and no need to list an article part of multiple courses ??

Please keep the good work, your plugin the way it is looks perfect at my new website. Hopefully I am publishing my new website soon! You will be happy to see it ??

Again, thank you Sean for all your hard work.
