articles and rank

Hi all and sorry for my english.
Is there a way to rank articles when writing them so that when they are extracted articles with rank=1 goes for first in the layout whith rank1 css styles, articles with rank=2 goes after rank1 with rank2 css styles, doing this indipendent from their wp category?
