I have been using Askimet to remove comment spam, without incident, until this weekend. Now my dashboard says that Askimet has been removed because the plugin is missing. I tried to look at the plugin (using Filezilla), but it says there is an error opening the file. I tried to delete the file and reinstall, but I was not able to delete the file, nor successfully transfer the files to my plugins directory.

This is making me worry that it might be a bigger issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Julie

Three second update: I just tried to access the Askimet file through Dreamweaver, and the error I got was that permission is denied for accessing that folder. Help!

I fixed it, I hope. For some reason permissions had changed on my host server for the Askimet file. I reset them, and now it seems to be working. I’m slightly worried about how the permissions could have changed, but at least it’s working again.

Ok, so digging around for clues, I see in my site files that I have 122 hits on % /wp-content/plugins/akismet/css/.default/BankofAmerica.Com/. When I click through to that, it seems to be saying my site (https://worldofjulie.com) is a spam site. Or something. Is someone using my site as a gateway to something else?
