Assign Ultimate member registration form and profile page to different users
-
I would like to set up a log in page with different user accounts registration form, and redirect to the different pages based on their user role.
In other words, I want to set up the same log in page that school will have for their students and for their teachers. One page with two buttoms that when the user click on one of the roles and register, this will be redirected to his account with access to areas which are not accessible if you didn’t log in.
I checked Ultimate Member website for help and I came across with the information I was looking for, but for some reason after following the guide, nothing happens. I never used this plugin and I feel a bit confused, even when some parts of this plugin are selfexplanatory. I posted at the end of this post the information I got.
I create a registration page which has 2 buttoms, both are for diferent users like the exemple I mentioned above. Then, I follow the steps below. Unfortunately the last bit, the step number 4 is when things doesn’t work. I would like to link the registre page that contain the 2 buttoms with the forms for diferent roles I created with Ultimate member that allow users to register. What happens is that the register page doesn’t do anything. I’ve just created two different user forms that I am not sure if they work either because I am pretending to register in one of them, I am not being redirected to my profile.
There is a tutorial on Youtube that explain the same than the information I found on Ultimate Member website. In that tutorial I believe I am missing something because he used Models and Photographers as an exemple, and his buttoms are linked and I don’t know how
Could please anybody explain me what I do wrong. I leave the link of the Youtube in case anybody want to see it and tell me what he does that I don’t.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rdFCl29VCI
One last thing I have some general questions about Ultimate Member so if you could give me more information I would really appreciate the effort.
Questions about Ultimate member
1- Do I have to install all the pages that the plugin come with for the porpuse I
want to do?
2- In case I need some, what do I do with the rest I don’t need?
3- If I delete them I will lose them forever?Unique profiles for different user roles
Overview
In this document we will explain how to display a unique profile for every role type on your site. This is useful if you wish you to show different profile fields to each role. By default, all Ultimate Member roles will see the same profile when they go to the user page.
Step 1: Create your user roles
The first step is to actually create the user roles that are required for your site. Once you have done this head over to the forms page where you will see the three default forms that are pre-installed.
Step 2: Create a new profile form
The second step is to create a new profile form which you will then assign to a specific user role. On the new form page select profile form from the ‘Select Form Type’ widget. The next thing you want to do is add your desired fields to the form area. Once you have finished building the form you then need to go to the ‘Customize this form’ widget and click the button so that you are not using the global options for this form.
When you click this button a range of options will appear. The option we are interested in is directly below the button and is labeled ‘Make this profile role-specific’. You want to click on the dropdown and select the user role that you want to assign to this form. Once you have done all this you can click the create button to save the profile. The last thing you want to do is copy the shortcode.
Step 3: Add shortcode to the user page
To ensure that Ultimate Member functions correctly you must add the shortcode to the user page and not create a new page. So you want to go to the existing user page and edit it. On the user page you will see the shortcode for the default profile form. You want to add the new the new shortcode to this page then update the page to save the changes. Once you have done the users with the matching role will see this profile rather than the default one. If your site has several roles you simply add every profile shortcode to the user page.
Step 4: Check all user roles
To make sure that everything is still working correctly after adding the shortcode to the user page you should view a profile for each user role. If any of the user’s profiles returns a page not found error this most likely means that you have not assigned that user role to a form. So you need to make sure every role type on your site is assigned to a profile form. That’s it you should now have unique profiles for each role on your site.
