• Do all WordPress administrator users now automatically have BackWPUp admin priveledges as well? How do I assign different BackWPUp roles to site users without changing their normal user role (Admin, Editor, etc)?

Since the most recent update I can’t see a way to assign BackWPUp roles independently of the regular WordPress user roles – they’re all on the same drop-down (where before BackWPUp roles were assigned via a separate drop-down menu).

  • The is a Dropdown with a BAckWPup role. That is for adding a additional role to the user. The first Role dropdown is only for changing user role.

The separate dropdown for the BackWPUp roles is no longer there.

All the BackWPUp roles have been added to the main WordPress role dropdown.

UPDATE: this problem appears to be specific to themes by Elegant Themes – the plugin is behaving normally with other themes.

I know it’s very difficult to troubleshoot theme-specific problems (especially with paid themes) but can you think of anything that might be causing this?

No, sorrry i can’t. I must have the theme to test what happends. OR you can ask the Theme author for test it.

I’m seeing this same issue on Genesis themes now.

Ok, i will look if we have that thems.

With genesis theme did you use for test?

The Genesis themes I’ve seen this issue on are Executive Pro and Outreach Pro.

I’ve also seen it on a few Elegant Themes: Evolution and Chameleon.

Additionally, I’m seeing the same issue on TwentyThirteen and Weaver II. On TwentyTwelve, the BackWPUp roles are lumped in with the main WordPress roles, but I still have the separate dropdown menu for BackWpUp.

On Genesis sites, the main User screen that lists all the users will say:
    Role: Adiminstrator
    BackWPUp Role: Administrator

On Elegant Themes sites, it will say:
    Role: Administrator
    BackWpUp Role: AdministratorBackWPup Admin

Note that this is happening on a lot of different websites across different hosting companies. All are up to date with the most recent versions of WordPress and BackWpUp.

I just noticed that the most recent security release for WordPress (4.3.1) addresses “a potential privilege escalation,” and this issue started happening after updating WordPress. Could that be the cause?

    Hi
Same problem (no dropdown for BackWPup roles) – using WP Twenty Twelve.
    Ted

Can someboddy set up a test system for me so that i can have a look. I can’t repreduse it in moment.

We are not seeing the role dropdown using TwentyFifteen and most recent version of BackWPup even.

With the last Version of BackWPup the rol ‘administartor’ has become all rights for acssesing BackWPup.

That means on Users that have the Administrator role the dropdown will not be displayed!

The Dropdown will only displayed for user with other roles.

I have one site I webadmin which has quite a few administors. What I don’t want, as the webadmin, is these other admins having access to the BackWPup plugin – yet you are stating that…

With the last Version of BackWPup the rol ‘administartor’ has become all rights for acssesing BackWPup.

How can this be changed so that other admins do not have access to plugins, such as yours, they don’t need to?

You can create a admin role and give him the neded capebilities.

    @ Daniel HüskenPlugin Author

You are not getting what I am saying…

All previous administrators were automatically added as BackWPup Admins by the plugin on this site – with NO option anywhere, in the user profile or in the BackWPup Settings to eliminate them as BackWPup Admins.

When I was added as an Administrator – to be the site’s Web Admin – I was NOT automatically added as a BackWPup Admin AND nowhere in the user profile OR in the BackWPup Settings is there an option to add me – the one who needs to be the BackWPup Admin – as a BackWPup Admin.

So, there are 5 Administrators on this site who are BackWPup Admins who know nothing about the plugin or the workings of the site AND with no options to eliminate them as BackWPup Admins.

There is one Administrator on this site whose job it is to be a BackWPup Admin (…me, the WebAdmin) with NO option to add me as a BackWPup Admin.

    How can this be solved?
