• One of the main reason of buying Astra theme was that ” It is jQuery free”.

But, in reality it is using jQuery even for very common features like the search icon and the sticky header.

I disabled jQuery and both search icon and sticky header stopped working.

Being a pro user I raised a ticket but no responce.

I understand that few features may need jQuery, but then don’t sell the product saying that it is jQuery free. Lets be more transparent.

On top of that every blocks in Ultimate add on for Gutenberg use jQuery.

I was optimising my website for web core vital and found many issues including the Astra menu that is causing CLS issue.

I don’t know for what reason the menu opens up and close for every page which is causing more layout shift.

Many platforms like Ezoic is flagging Astra as ” Not recommended ” theme.

After the core vital update, Astra should focus more on optimising the theme rather than adding new features.

    Thanks

  • Hello @bytegeeky

Sorry for the delay! I can see we have responded to your ticket that we shall get back with further details on the same day with some help from our developers.

Nonetheless, let us quickly help you with your queries.

Yes, we do not use jQuery with the free Astra theme. While in the Astra Pro currently, we do have some elements that use jQuery.

We have already taken this up on high priority and it shall be resolved very soon.

Further, regarding the CLS, let me share some quick thoughts —

There are two reasons for CLS here,
    1. Different Menu/body font style that is changing on the site load, which causes a CLS issue which will be fixed in our upcoming update as we are working on self-hosted google font (locally) that will resolve the menu CLS issue. You can recheck CLS by just removing all the custom google font style applied by the theme from the customizer.
2 The reason for the menu to open and close might be due to slow site/page speed because the CSS is getting applied with a delay. In these cases, we didn’t face such an issue.

Regarding the query about UAG –

Not every block in the Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg plugin uses jQuery, but a few blocks use it based on the requirement.
    ?
Also, we already have a task to eliminate all the jQuery from Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg plugin.

?Further, we have planned our next 2-3 updates based on performance improvements such as Optimized Dynamic Assets Loading, Block specific Static assets Loading, etc., which will further help.

I hope that helps and answers your query. ?? Let us know if you have any further queries.

    Hey Suman,
Appreciate your response on this. Search icon and sticky headers are very basic functions of the Astra theme. Those should be jQuery-free ASAP.

Coming to the menu, I already locally hosted my fonts but the menu opens up and closes during loading that is causing CLS delay.

Regarding UAG blocks, I use TOC and review blocks and both are using jQuery. Hopefully, you guys will come up with a solution soon.

    Indeed, @bytegeeky

We take them seriously they shall be taken care of very soon! ??

We appreciate your patience and understanding!
