attach to header, not the top of the screen

As I scroll down on my page, the header goes away. But as you scroll up, the header comes back. So even if you are way down on the page, the header will show. So the sticky widgets get partially hidden as you scroll up from deep down on the page. Is there a way I can attach the stickiness to the header, not the top of the page?
