I suddenly got some rss-feeds showing that a number of attachments (jpg, png and pdf) are deleted from my site. They disappeared from the media library, and also from the server (I checked FTP).

It has been going on for 2 days, as I can see through plugin Simple History. I have some logger info, but this does not make clear to my why this happens. It says (among others)

    messageDeleted {post_type} “{attachment_title}” (“{attachment_filename}”)
    initiator wp

Can anyone help out on this? I really have no clue where to start looking for a solution, I did not install any new plugins recently.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello support,

Heads up to above issue. Any one can please share more insigts? I am running in the similer issue right now & unable to track what caused deletion in my wordpress.

    Sachin.

@marionfw could you click the date of the event to show a modal with more information about the logged event? Maybe there is more information there that can give a clue about what’s going on.

    Hi Eskapism,
this is the link to a screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xut-JhhhKxQ1z72if2p_GnnlmloRbDcf/view?usp=drive_link

The server address is the providers address.

Thanks for looking into this problem!

Additional information: it happened again today (10 attachments were deleted), so it seems like every other day (march 3, 5 and 7) this issue appears, around the same time of the day. No one was logged in.

in the screenshot I can see that the deletion is taking place from a Cron job. Try installing a plugin such as https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-crontrol/ and maybe you there can see what job is running at the times the deletion is taking place.

Thanks a lot! There appears to be a cron job from WPDiscuz that removes images every 48 hours. Really bizar. I can’t delete it, so I paused it for now, and asked for support on the WPDiscuz plugins page.

Hi @marionfw Can you please share more details to track the specific cause?

    Thanks @eskapism

    Hi sachinbaleliya,

As @eskapism suggested, I installed plugin WPCrontrol. In the list of cron events you can check if there is a cron task that repeats itself every 48 hours. I found that there is a cron task that is activated by plugin WPDiscuz: ‘wpdiscuz_delete_unattached_images’
I could not delete this cron task from the settings either in WPDiscuz or in WPCrontrol, but in the WPControl list of events, there is an option to delete or pauze this cron task. For now I paused it, awaiting a reply on my report in the support section of WPDiscuz.
    Hope this helps you out.

Hi @marionfw, thank you for the details. In my case I found bp_media_delete_orphaned_attachments cron event in crons list. Thanks again for your help.

    Resolved. Thanks.
