attempting to redirect to sub directory, by dashboard dissapeared

I installed wordpress in a subdirectory (bad move i realize) and in an attempt to get the root level to direct to it i copied the main index.php file on to my root directory and changed the file to call the header from the sub directory. This worked totally fine, the page shows and everyhting, but for some unknown reason, now my dashboard won’t show up at all no matter what i try.

I’ve been working on this site for months and just launched it only to run into this…please help me resolve this issue!
