    Hello,

I’m trying to use your plug-in to upload a file type called “.ies,” but I can’t get it to work. I have inputted “.ies” under extension, and the MIME Type as “application/octet-stream,” which I think is correct but I don’t know for sure, and I’m not sure how to find out. The box is checked as enabled. However, when I go to upload a .ies file, I get the error message: “Sorry, you are not allowed to upload this file type”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Update – I have changed the MIME Type to text/plain (which I found using this site: https://www.htmlstrip.com/mime-file-type-checker) , this is now allowing me to import the file. However, now they are just opening up as text files. if you save it, the file saves as an “ies.txt.” You have to delete the “txt” to get the .ies file. What could I be doing wrong?

    Hi @jimithing007,

If the MIME type is text/plain, the file you’re trying to upload is basically a text file with .ies extension. It’s up to the source or app creating that specific file. You can check with other samples of .ies files.

    I hope this helps!

Is there a way to prompt the file to download instead of open as the text file in the browser? I think if the user can download the file, they should be able to open it with their .ies program. Problem now is they have to save it as the text file, then remove the .txt extension to be able to use it. I’ve seen other websites that allow .ies files to be directly downloaded without this issue (granted I don’t know if these are WordPress sites).

Apologies – if I need to ask this elsewhere, please direct me there. I’m not sure where to go. I’ve been researching this issue and haven’t been successful in finding a resolution.

We have historically been putting these .ies files in .zip files to avoid this issue, but it seems some browsers are cracking down on .zip file downloads (at the very least, we’ve had some occasional issues where browsers are incorrectly flagging them as malicious)

    Hi @jimithing007,

    Apologies for the wait.

Unfortunately, we do not have a way to control how the file downloads since the File Upload Types plugin in essence allows specific files that are not by default allowed in WordPress to get uploaded.

Have you tried adding .ies files with the MIME Type application/octet-stream as a custom file type?

    Hi Jade,

The original issue that I was running into, which prompted me to look into uploading these files via the Upload Types plug-in to begin with, appears to be resolved. So, for now, I’m not needing to upload these files this way and I have a workaround. Thank you for the follow-up. I will mark as resolved.
