[NSFW] Attribute Archives keep getting reenabled

    Whenever I upload files through FTP, WooCommerce re-enables all the product attribute archives. Only 3 of them should be enabled. But I’ve had to manually disable the others at least a dozen times. Doesn’t matter if it’s plugin files or my child theme. But whenever I upload files through FTP, those archives get re-enabled.

    It’s taken me two years to identify WHEN it happens (up till today, I thought it was random), and I still cannot understand WHY it happens or how to stop it.

    I built the child theme and the plugins which I upload through FTP. So I know that none of them make any reference to the product attributes archives.

    How do I stop woocommerce from re-enabling all the attribute archives?

    It sounds like there is something being triggered when you upload files via FTP. Possibly a plugin or a function that is affecting attributes?

    Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    This kind of problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.

    The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    Before you start

    First, please make sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. Most hosting companies have this included in the subscription, but you could also consider using a service like?Jetpack. If something goes wrong, it’s nice to know that you can restore your site.

    I will try that on my development site this coming weekend.

    I’ve seen the problem on both the development site and the live site. But I’ve only seen it triggered on the live site. I’m not sure I’ll be able to trigger it on the development site.

    But I wouldn’t dare deactivate my theme on the live site.

    I was unable to trigger the problem when I deliberately tried to, which was really frustrating.

    But I did develop a better understanding of php namespaces this week. And I cleaned up the sloppy namespace declarations that were part of wpbeginner’s custom widget template. I had used that template for 3 widgets, but none of them wrote to the database. So I don’t know how they could have contributed to the problem.

    I’m not sure. I only know that I haven’t been able to deliberately trigger the problem in the past week.

    I have not been able to recreate this issue in the last two weeks. I don’t know if I fixed it by cleaning up those sloppy namespace declarations or if I just don’t know how to trigger it.

    Thank you for the update. It’s good that the issue hasn’t reappeared – clearing the custom widget template may have fixed it. I’m closing this thread for now. If the same issue occurs again, feel free to open a new topic.
