    Good morning,

In my company we have created a plastic pots store. The products are variable and have 3 attributes (model, color and shipping format).

There are models that are only in some colors and others that are only in other colors; there are models that can be shipped in boxes and others only in pallets. The problem is that when you select a color and go to the model box, only the models in that color are shown and the others disappear. The same happens with the format, if you select “box” format, the models that can only be sent in “pallet” format disappear.

This is a problem because if you don’t know it and you don’t play with the combinations, you will see less products than there really are.

Is there a way to show all attributes always, even if the ones that cannot be selected are grayed out?

I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much, best regards.

  • Hi @josefgr90

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you would like to display all attribute options for your variable products, even if some combinations are not available, and have the unavailable options grayed out. This would allow your customers to have a better understanding of the full range of products you offer.

As a first step, have you followed the steps here in creating variable products?

If so, can you please share with us a screenshot of your product’s variation settings for us to check this further.

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, you can try https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the necessary information below for us to investigate the issue further:

Hi Xue, thanks for your reply.

As you say, we would like to be able to display all attributes, even if some combinations are not available.

To start with, I attach a picture of the attributes and variations:

    Hi @josefgr90 ,

By default, the “out of stock” combinations should still be display on the dropdown, and will show as Out of stock when that particular combination is selected, like so:

Can you navigate to any product exhibiting this behavior on your end, and on the product edit page, go to the Product data → Variations tab.

Next, please check that these variations have a price set for each, and that the Stock status is set to “Out of stock” for those specific variations:

Should this make no difference on your end, its possible that either your current theme, or another plugin is changing the default behavior. To check, you can perform a full conflict test.

The support guide below provides a walkthrough on this:

Let us know how this goes!

Hi @beautyofcode, thanks for your reply. Sorry to reply so late but we still can’t find a solution.

I will try to explain my case with an example in images:

In my store, we can select 3 attributes (model, color and format).

If I position myself in terracotta color and box format, all the models appear:

When I change the color to black, the models that do not have black color disappear.

Would it be possible that all options would always be displayed, even if they could not be selected?

Thank you very much, best regards.

    Hi @josefgr90

It sounds like you’d like all of your product attributes to always be displayed, even when they’re not available for a particular combination.

Currently, WooCommerce is designed to hide unavailable attribute combinations to prevent customers from selecting options that are not in stock or do not exist. This is to ensure a smooth shopping experience for your customers.

However, if you still wish to display all options, you might need to use a plugin or custom code to achieve this. I recommend reaching out to a developer for assistance on this matter, as it may involve complex coding changes.

Please note that altering this functionality could confuse customers if they see options they can’t select or purchase.

I wish I could help more, but hopefully, this gets you going in the right direction to get the job done.
