Clicking on the progress bar of the audio player does not change the play point but restarts the file from the beginning.

I have audio files on a number of WordPress installations, both multisite and single site, with and without SSL. All audio files are added using audio short code and use the WP-included audio player (MediaElement). I can find no pattern to this issue. Player works as expected on most SSL and non-SSL sites, likewise with single and multiuser sites, but there are still two sites where the file restarts when the progress bar is clicked. I’ve tested with all plugins disabled, latest version of WP installed, and a fresh install of Twentysixteen theme; I’ve also gone with a clean .htaccess file – all with no change.

I’m not sure where else to look and would appreciate any suggestions.

I’ve seen this happen on some videos. Did you check to see if the common denominator is the file format? Or the browser used? There could be a limitation of not supporting the seek function.

Thanks for the reply and good questions; I should’ve included in my original post.

Files are all mp3 audio. The reset behavior occurs only in Chrome. In Safari, the progress bar is replaced by the text, “Live Broadcast,” and is not clickable. And in Firefox, there is no issue; clicking the progress bar jumps forward and back as expected.

I’m not familiar with the ‘seek’ function but I’ll look into it. And again, this behavior does not occur across all WP installations, just on a couple of older multisite installations.
