    Hi Katherine,

I believe those guys already do have a version of the plugin available. I previously spoke with Henare Degan about it who o believe adapted the plugin for Australia.

    Cheers,
    Phil

I don’t work for open australia. I’m a potential user.

I asked Katherine at Open Australia and she said “great idea and did I know anyone who could do the technical side?”

So I thought maybe you could adapt yours to their data?

So Henare Degan must be part of a different group?

Here we go, I found the original post from Henare with the adapted plugin: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/openaustralia-dev/1QpYM6RxqAU

    Hope that helps!

OpenAustralia is a very small organization. Henare and Katherine are two of the principles. Therefore if Henare’s plugin did what I asked, Katherine would have known about it.

The plugin you are referring to, provides access to MP’s speeches. It does not facilitate website visitors writing letters to their own MPs, which is what, as I understand it, your plugin does. Henare’s plugin is also a ruby gem, which would require some fancy stuff to function as a wordpress plugin.

OpenAustralia does have the data on all the MPs, so that’s what would be needed to write a plugin.

Can yours be adapted to another data set?

Ah sorry I’m getting confused between this and another plugin of mine (TheyWorkForYou which Henare did fork)!

So, all this plugin does is redirect to another site (WriteToThem.com) which I don’t have any influence on. You’d need an Australian equivalent of that she first.

If you already have such a site I’m afraid it’s outside my capacity to add multiple states, and anyway it would dilute it’s purpose which is specifically for the UK site.

The best course of action would be to fork this plugin (it’s licence allows this) and modify it to use the Australian version of WriteToThem.

    Cheers,
    Phil
