Hi! I’m trying to use (what I believe is) a fantastic plugin! However, I can’t seem to get it to work… the tests keep failing.

    Here’s what I get:

    Connect to Mail Host

    Postie connection: sockets

    Postie protocol: imap-ssl

    Postie server: imap.gmail.com

    Postie port: 993

    pConnection: mailbox: INBOX

    Connecting via Socket

    Socket: tls://imap.gmail.com:993

    Socket error: 0 – (Resource id #1326)

    Socket: IMAP

    socket write: A0001 CAPABILITY

socket read (3) :* OK Gimap ready for requests from 198.57.247.141 u26mb82513546otq

    socket write: (login) LOGIN/APOP/PASS

socket read (1) :A0002 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

Unable to connect. The server said: IMAP – Could not connect to IMAP server imap.gmail.com on port 993. Array
    (
[0] => A0002 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)
    )

    Test complete

I created a new email address specifically to post messages to and Postie doesn’t seem to be able to access it. Any suggestions?

Please be sure and read through https://postieplugin.com/getting-started/

Specifically the part about enabling IMAP in Gmail.

    Hi Wayne!

Thank you so much for replying! However, I regret to inform you that although I had already poured through the “getting-started” and “Specifically the part about enabling IMAP in Gmail.” it did NOT answer the question to this problem.

    The plugin was configured properly…

    It was all in Gmail.

Apparently, there is a setting in Gmail that prevents “less secure apps” from accessing a mailbox. This isn’t mentioned in the “getting-started” guide (or, in fairness, I didn’t see it).

Once I identified your app as a “less secure app” to Gmail, the plugin worked like a charm!

I’m looking forward to a WONDERFUL experience (from now on!)

    THANK YOU!!! ??

Glad you got it figured out.

For others you can find more info here https://postieplugin.com/postie-gmail/

I’ve had this problem with mail.com/aol/gmail so I used the “less-secure apps” option on Gmail, but got :

    Postie connection: sockets

    Postie protocol: pop3

    Postie server: pop.gmail.com

    Postie port: 995

Unable to connect. The server said:

POP3 – Could not connect to POP3 server pop.gmail.com on port 995. Array

What do they mean by “Array”?

It sounds like your web host doesn’t allow outbound connections on port 995. You should verify this with them. Some hosts require that you use their email service.
