    Hi,

I have installed the plugin on our productive site. All other instances on test sites were removed. I connected to GoToWebinar (we have a PRO account). Everything worked fine for some days.

Last friday the authorisation failed. I had to re-auth. Today, i got kicked out 3 times. The message reads:

We ran into an issue during authentication. The response from the GoToWebinar server was: 400 Bad Request. An error can occur during the authentication process for a couple of reasons. If you are on a trial account sometimes the API does not work so please go onto a paid account. It is possible the GoToWebinar server is down and a temporary issue has occured. In which case please wait a few minutes and try again. Make sure that the account you are using to login with is for GoToWebinar and not another LogMeIn product. If you have turned caching off (in the General Options tab) it is possible you have ran into your daily API limit – it is recommended to keep caching turned on and to only delete the cache when necessary. You can also reach out to LogMeIn for further information on your account and why you could be experiencing this issue.

I have cache turned on, we only have 25 webinars right now, so the API limit of 500 per day should not be reached. (I also tried with cache off, same problem.)

I contacted LogMeIn already, they said the account was fine. Said we could up the API limit of our developer account. But we don’t have one.

I also searched the forum and tried different suggestions, nothing worked. Lots of people here talk about the authorization and organizer key. I don’t have these fields.

Any ideas what i can do? I can’t re-auth the plugin 4 times a day.

    Thanks for the help!
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

I definitely understand your frustration. I think LogMeIn could be onto something, and I have experienced some issues the last couple of days myself on my test site. I thought the issues were just local to me, but your email kind of confirms there could be something going on with the developer account limits. I am going to raise this issue with LogMeIn immidiately and see if there’s a way to resolve this. You are right, this is not acceptable having to reauthenticate all the time. Please leave this with me as I come up with a solution. Thanks Thomas,

Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate you looking into this.

If i can do something on my end, please let me know.

    Hello,

We have been experiencing the same error on our site, https://www.iamsinc.com/webinars/

The status “Authentication has been successful. You don’t need to save the settings but you can if you have made other changes” does appear after we “Connect with GoToWebinar.” When we navigate away from the plug-in, we’ll receive the same authentication issue error as mentioned by SolidLine. Within 24 hours there will be an error on our page referencing an API error.

Thank you for your help and all you do,
    Josh

UPDATE: I checked on our site a couple of minutes ago and this is the error message that was in place of the upcoming webinars:

“Something’s not working. It looks like the API call to GoToWebinar isn’t succeeding. This may be because you are on a trial account. Unfortunately API calls can’t be made to GoToWebinar accounts on a trial. If you do have a full GoToWebinar license please try re-authenticating the plugin again by pressing the ‘Click here to get Auth and Key’ button in the plugin settings. You should also clear the cache or turn the cache off in the plugin settings and this should resolve the issue.”

I reconnected the plug-in and now its good to go again. Side note, we do have a full GoToWebinar license.

    Thank you,
    Josh

This has been happening continuously for the past month. Do you have a plan for a fix for this issue? It is very unprofessional for the error message to show on our website.

How close are you to a repair?

I have not heard back from GoToWebinar support and it’s been over a week. As I said I am going to do everything I can to resolve it but the issue is with GoToWebinar.

Today I have finally heard back from GoToWebinar regarding this issue – yes I have been waiting more than a week. They believe that the issue is being caused by a large volume of API calls being made in quick succession. I am currently negotiating with GoToWebinar on increasing the API limits for the WP GoToWebinar application because of the large volume of users that now use it.

Today I have released version 12.5 of the plugin (available in free and pro versions) which aims to minimise the API burden caused by the plugin in a number of areas to reduce the risk of authentication failing under GoToWebinars new authentication protocol.

Since version 12.3 of the plugin the error notice displayed on the frontend of the site by the plugin is only visible to admin users, so visitors won’t see this message.

I am going to be monitoring the situation in the coming days. Version 12.5 doesn’t guarantee that everything will be perfect, but if everyone goes to 12.5 it should significantly reduce the risk of authentication fails for everyone. If issues still persist I am considering shutting down the application and creating a new one which will force everyone onto a newer version of the plugin, but this is a last resort as it is a bit of an inconvenience and does have other ramifications. In the mean time I am going to mark this thread as solved.

Thank you for your support everyone, especially Northern Beaches! I hope you can resolve the API call issue with GoToWebinar.

I had to remove the plugin temporarily from our productive site and switch back to our old system because it was not working. I will update to 12.5 and test again on our developer site in the coming days.

I can’t speak for everyone but just so you know: if this plugin works (or if we could get more API calls in the Pro version) i think paying 60 bucks for the Pro version is more than worth it. So we will probably opt for that once everything works again.

    Hi @solidline,

Thanks for your feedback and patience ?? I have spent a huge number of hours on this plugin. It started out as a hobby (it was my first ever WordPress plugin) and turned into a mini business. But if I had to divide the amount of hours I have spent vs the amount of money I have made I would be working for like $2 an hour or something haha! But your appreciation makes the work more bearable! Thanks ??

Any news here? We’re on version 12.7 and still can’t go more than a day or two without the error. Agree with other posters, this would be amazing if reliable, well worth paying for. Thanks very much,

    Hi @limeduck,

I have been using the latest version of the plugin reliably without loss of authentication. There are many other users using the plugin without issue also.

Also from a development perspective there’s nothing I can do to ‘improve’ things. The plugin uses caching appropriately to refresh the access tokens given by GoToWebinar.

    Thanks,

ok, if it’s just me, do you have any troubleshooting suggestions? Should I open a ticket?

    Plugin Author Northern Beaches Websites

    (@northernbeacheswebsites)

    Hi @limeduck,

I don’t really have any great ideas to be honest. You can raise a ticket with GoToWebinar but I don’t think they will be able to assist you with this based on my experience.

If you are having continued issues you can always use the older version of the plugin which uses the older authentication method which uses a long lasting token. As I mentioned before though this authentication method is going to be deprecated in August by GoToWebinar. But the older version of the plugin is pretty stable for most people though so it shouldn’t be too inferior compared to the latest version on a feature basis.

Everyone’s setup is different and it’s possible that your configuration might not be playing nicely with the plugin. Have you tried using the plugin on a test server with no other plugins running? I have said in the past that you can only have 1 website authenticated with the plugin at any given time with this new authentication system, however I think I might be wrong about this as I have been running a development server and a live server with the plugin and I have had both authenticated at the same time. So you should be able to achieve this I believe*.

If you have any plugin that is like deleting things from the database (particularly transients) this could really stuff the plugins authentication up.

Also out of curiosity is your website getting constant traffic? Like would someone be visiting it every hour of the day without exception?

I am currently on version 12.7. Will upgrading to the Pro Version of the plugin resolve the authentication issue? My calendar is getting removed daily.

    Thanks!

    Hi @ka-icontracts,

No upgrading to pro will not resolve authentication issues. But if you upgrade to pro and provide me login access to your site I can monitor things first hand which may assist me in coming up with a solution should it be available.
