Everything was working fine and now I am getting this error message. My website is password protected and I did recently change the username and password. Would this affect postie? Here is the error message I keep getting:
[Mon Jan 27 03:00:01 2014] [error] [client 204.186.82.50] user hbco: authentication failure for “/pos/wp-content/plugins/postie/get_mail.php”: Password Mismatch

Yes, as WordPress cron does a separate http GET.

When I do what you suggested I get the following alert message:
[Mon Jan 27 17:40:01 2014] [alert] [client 204.186.82.50] /home/hbco/pos/.htaccess: Satisfy not allowed here

My website was always password-protected and postie has been working for months. It was only when I changed the password that I now get this error message. I can’t figure out where it is trying to enter a username and password. Because it’s not my username and password for my email. It is the username and password needed to access my site that says it is mismatched.

You might check with your hosting company for a way to always allow “localhost” while requiring everyone else to supply a password. I’m not really any expert on the .htaccess file.
