Author Drop Down List… anyone?

the author list in my group blog keeps growing and I would like to list all author name in a drop down list… also is it possible to list only active authors in this list… some authors retire and I merely turn such authors to subscriber or in the integrated bbPress – “Block” the author from bbPress admin… any help would be highly appreciated.
