Author images not displayed

    Everything was working well up until today. Something happened which I could not figure out yet and the author images are no longer displayed. Somehow the 

    <div class="meta-author-img">
<?php echo get_avatar( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ), 100 ); ?>
</div>

    returning nothing. But I can see the profile images selected and displayed correctly in the individual user profile settings page.

    Any idea what’s going on here?

    Figured it out. Somehow the avatar option in the Discussions settings was disabled. Enabling this option fixed the problem.
