Author Limit to Pending

  • I want to limit the Author in a way he can view and edit his own pages of which some might already be published however, I want to allow editing all of his own pages but, once the edit is complete to limit his ability to “pending publish” and not let him publish the page.

    Each time I check the box to allow him to edit “published” pages he can then edit the page and re-publish it without any review.

    What I want is for him to be able to edit his pages but, after each edit the page to be required to be reviewed before it can be published.

    Capability Manager is mainly just knobs and switches for the built-in WordPress permissions layer, which does not innately support what you describe.

    To accomplish this, you have to use a different plugin which substantially modifies the editing process to enable moderated editing of published content. One example is my Revisionary plugin. FYI, due to lack of an API, I do not support moderated revisioning of featured image, custom fields or plugin-defined metadata with any public plugin release.
