Author Only Sitemap Posts Indexed?

    I cannot seem to find an answer to my question in search or the support forums here.

    I am curious, if I disable post sitemaps, but enable author sitemaps, will all the posts by the author be indexed? I noticed author shows up in the sitemap, but it only has a link to the author name. Of course once on our WordPress site all the author pages are listed, but not on the author sitemap.

    I also see I can globally no index posts and then manually enable them on individual posts. In this case I would enable them only for the author.

    Our site covers many topics, but we are aiming for one topic in particular which I as the author really only need indexed.

    If you exclude posts from the sitemap while enabling authors the individual post URLs will not be included in the sitemap. The Author/User sitemap only includes the author archive URLs for the Author/User on your site. In regards to whether it will be indexed, the sitemap only serves as a guide for the search engine, and helps those pages become indexed faster, but does not ultimately control what is or isn’t indexed. So pages/posts that are not included in the sitemap will still be indexed, but may take longer to be indexed if not in the sitemap. If there are posts you specifically don’t want indexed, we would recommend setting those to noindex.

    So I can leave the posts I do not want indexed in the sitemap and noindex those posts and no harm done in search engine/SEO world…

    Yes, you can set a post to ‘noindex’ and it will automatically drop from the XML sitemap, so these posts will not get indexed by Google or any other search engine.
