I am running WooCommerce and the WooCommerce Square plugin. Everything has been working fine, but as of a day ago, it suddenly stopped with this error message in the order notes:

Square Payment Failed (Status code UNAUTHORIZED: The Authorization http header of your request was malformed. The header value is expected to be of the format “Bearer TOKEN” (without quotation marks), where TOKEN is to be replaced with your access token (e.g. “Bearer ABC123def456GHI789jkl0”). For more information, see https://docs.connect.squareup.com/api/connect/v2/#requestandresponseheaders.

I have deactivated all plugins and themes to test it out, switched out the theme for the basic Store Front, and it still creates the same error. I have ensured all plugins and themes are up-to-date as well.

  • Same problem here.

Update: I just went into WooCommerce settings, disconnected from Square, and then reconnected. It seems to be working now.

    Hey there @staffalacarte

Can you please try disconnecting and reconnecting the plugin with Square, and then checking again? This can happen sometimes if there’s an issue with the connection, and toggling that can help.

    Hi there @staffalacarte,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
