Authors can't access admin features

Love the plugin. Thanks for making it.
When I enable the UM plugin, Authors/Editors lose the admin bar completely and can’t post new blog entries. /wp-admin redirects them to the home page and no editing/posting can occur.
What’s happening?
I have “Can access wp-admin?” set to YES, but the “WP-Admin Access” column still says “no” on the User Roles admin page.
How can I fix this?
