• hi all, i seem to be coming up against some sort of bug, or else i modified something in a way that i don’t see.

according to the documentation, users who have the role of “author” within the blog should be able to come back and edit their own comments after submitted (based on edit_posts).

but, even when logged in, an author in my blog doesn’t see a link to “edit” next to ‘eir own comment along with the other post metadata, and there’s no links to do this from the dashboard interface either. i also went in as an editor, copied the correct url for editing an author’s post, and then logged in as that author. it said i (as author) didn’t have permission.

an author does see a link allowing ’em to edit just their own posts, but not their own comments.

“editor” and “admin” in the blog get these links.

    any ideas?

    thanks!

thanks, but i’m not sure what about the role of author i would change to add this functionality. the documentation suggets that the “capability” edit_posts should allow an author to edit ‘eir own comments. i don’t see this function associated with any of the other “capabilities.” are you saying it will all become clear if i download the plugin? is there a bug in the wp install and/or is the documentation incorrect?

The documentation might be (and often) is incorrect: changes are introduced and the volunteers – like yourself or any other user – don’t have time or forget to update.

If you download and install the plugin it will be easier to talk ??

ok, so i’ve installed the role manager plugin. i’m not sure i see what i would do to make it any different though. authors currently have a green check mark next to “edit posts”, as do contributors… i don’t see anything that specifies editing comments more precisely than that.

    advice?

hi again, it seems like this might be something peculiar to the server i’m on, or something i “did” along the way installing and setting up this blog. i’ve now compared my blog to one on a different host, also version 2.0.2, and on that other site, the author editing of comments works fine. i tried changing back to the default theme in the problem blog, but that didn’t help.

i’m not php programmer, but can someone direct me towards where to look to examine the appropriate permissions. could this also be a unix file permissions problem?

thanks for any help you can offer.

i also used the plugin to disable and renable the “edit posts” option for authors, which didn’t help either.

hi again, a programmer friend looked at the code and apparently it allows authors to edit their own comments *if* the comment is attached to an entry written by the author. i would like authors to be able to edit their comments no matter where in the blog they appear.

where should i report this bug? and, can anyone point me to the right place in the code to try rewriting it myself? not that i want to break anything, but i really do want this particular functionality for my multi-author blog.

    thanks,

    drt

I have this similar problem. Using wp-bankroll anyone can post on my blog. I have the roles plugin installed as well. My problem is that the publisher of a post has the ability to edit everyone’s comments on the post they have written. Any fix to this?
