• I run a site where a number of writers contribute articles. I do all the posting, but each author gets listed under their own name. I’d like to set it so every time someone comments on one of their articles, they get an email notification about the comment. I get them for my posts only, so I thought it was already set up to do that. Turns out, it’s not.

What do I need to do/download/change/set to allow authors to get notified when they get comments?

  • Have you set up under Admin Dashboard > Settings > Discussion with “Email me whenever someone posts a comment”

I thought it should do this automatically: Settings Discussion Screen

Do all your authors have the right email addresses associated with their usernames?

Sadly, yes and yes. I know the setting works because I get them for my articles and I don’t get notified of other author’s comments. But it seems no one gets notified. Maybe it’s the setting they are under – editor, author, contributor, etc – that is changing something.

I think I have it all fixed. I had a plugin I used to use when I first started that was stopping authors from getting the notifications. Deleted it and the notifications are starting to come in.

Oh, great. What was the plugin?

It was called Members. It allowed for more control over what users were allowed to do. It was helpful in the beginning, but now that I post everything it’s not needed.
