• Is there a way to give someone authorship on a post without making them an author in the WP admin panel? I don’t want people to be able to log in and create posts, but I do want to give them authorship credit on the post with perhaps a social login or something. Any way to do this?

    Thanks,

    Oak

    Oak,

You could create a new member but only give them Contributor role

This means they will be able to create their own posts, but will need an administrator/editor, to publish it for them.

Thanks for replying Ryan. That’s better, but I would like to avoid them creating posts altogether. Is there a way to block post creation for anyone less than “Author” but let everyone log in?

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want people to be able to create posts that don’t get published, but you want them to be able to login.

    What’s the purpose for that?

The other way I think you could achieve what you want, is to simply create user accounts for other authors but not give them the login details.

That way their name will have credit for the post but they wouldn’t have been the ones to create the post within your WordPress backend. You’ll have to do that yourself and just give credit to the user you created for them.

    Hope that makes sense…

I’m letting people fill out a form with a site contribution, but I don’t want them to bypass the form and go right into the admin panel and click new post. Maybe I’ll try the contributor idea and try to avoid giving people login url information. If they know this is a WP site, they could still guess the url for the login page. Is there a way to safely change that folder so it’s better masked???

Ahhh, o.k, I think I understand better what your trying to do.

What kind of form are you using? Is it something like (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-submitted-posts/)

Check out the following plugins, they should give you the options you want,

    &

Oh, and I’m using Formidable Pro as my form plugin.

Thanks Ryan, I found one very similar to the user-role-editor and it’s working great. I appreciate your help.
